Above All

The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks as one from the earth.  The one who comes from heaven is above all.  John 3:31

What does John mean when he says "The one who comes from above is above all"?

A few verses to clarify:

Hebrews 1:1-2 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets...but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son...

Hebrews 4:14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God...

Ephesians 1:21-22 That power is like the working of His mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority power and dominion, and every title that can be given not only in the present age but also in the one to come.

Jesus is above the prophets, angels and in fact the entire universe.
He can speak of heavenly things which we know nothing about.
He was not born as a natural man by the seed of man but by the Holy Spirit.

Proof that men are of the earth:

Acts 14:15 ...We too are only men, human like you.  We are bringing you good news, telling you to turn from these worthless things to the living God, who made heaven and earth and sea and everything in them.

Even Paul and Barnabas knew they had a human nature and could only point other men up to God.  They were not opportunists to receive the praise and worship from man that only belongs to God.
They only knew of the things of earth and could only speak to that which they saw in Jesus or were led to speak by the Holy Spirit.

What is your response?

Today acknowledge the supremacy of Christ.

Turn away from worthless idols, or rituals.

Praise Him who is over all and worthy of your adoration.

All verses are taken from the NIV Bible
