I Am Telling You The Truth

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched - this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.  We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us.  And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.  We write this to make our joy complete.
1 John 1:1-4

Snow.  It's white, pure white, hospital white, uncolored, crystallized frozen water.  White like the purest white cloud against the bluest sky you have ever seen.  Some of you have seen pictures of it and are seeing it in your minds eye.  Others of you have only heard about it.  Still others of you are just hearing about it for the first time and can't decide whether to believe me or not.

Let me tell you a little more about snow, because I have lived in the land of snow and we Canadians pride ourselves on having harnessed the fun in it.  We ski, snowboard, snowmobile and ice sail across the stuff.

We build snow houses out of it and call them igloos.

Our children build snow forts, make snow balls and have snowball fights.  We roll snow around and make snow men, build enough of them and you have snow families, and communities.

You can lay down on it and swing your arms and legs and when you get up you have made a "snow angel".

You can gather snow in a cup sprinkle some coloring on it and drizzle maple syrup on it call it a snow cone and yes eat it.  These are just a few things that you can do with snow.  I know, I lived in a place called Ontario and the last house I owned the snow banks were EIGHT feet high (almost THREE meters) when the snow plow would clear the road.

And oh my aching back because of having to remove the snow from my deck, walkways and off the car and driveway.  My back hurts just thinking and writing about it.  It sometimes would take a whole day to "dig out" after a snow storm.  Then when you go in for supper and night falls, guess what...it would start to snow all over again.  Snow is real!  I have seen it, touched it, felt it melt on my face, played and worked in it.  I am convinced of it.

John is talking about Jesus Christ the way I have talked to you about snow.  He walked with Jesus, touched Jesus, listened to Jesus and saw the miracles that Jesus did.  John is convinced of who Jesus is and that what Jesus said will all come to pass.  He was so completely sold out for Christ that he even died a martyrs death.  So for John to die over the validity of the life of Christ was not a "gamble" but rather a sure thing.  John knew that if he were to die on earth over the truth of Jesus Christ he would be with Him in heaven.  Another apostle, Paul, said "to live is Christ, to die is gain."

If you challenged me that there was no snow and wanted to bet a million dollars there was no such thing as snow I would take your bet and even ask you to double it because I KNOW ABOUT SNOW!

  • The more important question however is do you believe in Jesus Christ?
  • Will you accept what the apostle John is writing about?
  • Are you so convinced of the life and words of Jesus Christ that you would give your life for Him if it was required of you?
