Be happy, young man while you are young,
and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.
Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes
see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgement.
So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the
troubles of your body, for youth
and vigor are meaningless. Remember your Creator in the days
of your youth... Ecclesiastes 11:9,10 12:1a
It has only been a few weeks since I talked with them so it's too soon to tell how it has affected them, if, or how it may have changed their life's course. But I do believe that there is a reaffirmed openness to God and His Word, and to me as their dad. So from where I stand I'm very glad that they listened and that I took the time to share what the Holy Spirit opened my eyes to. Of course my work isn't done here, I am still expected to help them formulate questions so that they can go and find out answers and then make decisions for their futures.
God wants my children and yours to grow up healthy, inquisitive, and confident. They can be these things if they are allowed to set goals for themselves and to discover who they were created to be. Why are they are encouraged to be happy and let their hearts be filled with joy while they are young? To follow what they see and not be anxious? Because as they settle down and the responsibilities of life as leaders and parents settle on them, it will become more difficult to be as carefree as they were in their youth.
So young people don't let time or joy slip away from you. Get involved in what you are interested in and give it one hundred percent! Become the best you can be in what you're doing whether it's studying, sports or even business. Be pure in your pursuits, honest to yourself, others and God. Then enjoy getting the rewards of what you are wisely planting now.
Not too long ago I was sharing this scripture with my kids and the response
from them was very positive. It absolutely set them free to explore and
discover whatever they wanted, yet within safe boundaries. It encouraged
them to follow their heart, banish anxiety, and cast off bodily troubles.
It freed them to dream and imagine who they would like to be, who they
wanted to become. God's perfect advice is timeless, Ecclesiastes
was written approximately three thousand years ago by King Solomon, yet is
still relevant to the youth of today.
