Light And Dark

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."
John 3:19-21

This is the third response to Nicodemus' question "How can a man be born when he is old?"

  1. The first was in verses 5-8, a statement of the human condition, born in flesh but spiritually dead.  (read my blog: Are There Air Planes In The Bible?).
  2. The second in verses 16-18, salvation comes only through the Son, if there is no belief in Him there is no hope for man, a terminal condition without remedy.  (read my blog: Green Light, Red Light).
  3. The third and final response in verses 19-21, the verdict: evil, hate and fear keep man in darkness, truth dispels the darkness and glorifies God.
When I was 12 I moved to Kingston, Ontario.  A much larger city than where I had lived.  It had a metro bus system that moved thousands of people around the city every day.  I had to use it to get to doctor appointments, school, home etc.

Very early on I remember being on a bus that was driving and stopping at places that were very unfamiliar to me and it made me very afraid.  It was getting late in the evening and to make it worse it was winter time so it was getting dark earlier and faster.  I finally got enough courage to go to the bus driver and tell him where I needed to go.  I was on the wrong bus - he helped get me transferred onto a bus that would get me to my destination.

My point is that I was going somewhere, I thought I knew where but I was wrong.  I could have been riding that bus to this day and still not gotten where I needed to go.  I had to make a change.  When I did change I wasn't afraid anymore but rather relieved and happy that I had.  It was as if the day got brighter.

Where are you going?

Are you absolutely sure of your eternal destination?

Can you track it with the Scriptures like I could with my bus pass?

If you are not sure of where you are going, do as I did with the bus driver and ask God to help you find the eternity you want.  Live in the truth of God's Word, His light, and have the confidence your eternal 'bus ticket' says your going to heaven.

Jesus says "I am the way and the truth and the life."  John 14:6  "I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." John 8:12
