God Was Pleased

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. ... And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear."  And it was so.  God called the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters he called "seas." ... And God saw that it was good.  And there was evening, and there was morning - the third day.
Genesis 1:1,9-10,13NIV

The Good News translation of Genesis 1:10 says "And God was pleased with what He saw."

yourdictionary.com defines "pleased" as:
  1. to be agreeable to; give pleasure to; satisfy.
  2. to be the will or wish of.
  3. to give enjoyment,...make glad or contented.

Today is an amazingly sunny and warm day so I decided to drive into town and do some errands.  The road between where I live and Fish Hoek, is a beautiful drive, with the Atlantic ocean on my right and mountains to the left.  As I come into the town, I can see the gorgeous sand beach that stretch the length of the town and people walking there, or swimming in the ocean.

While I was driving I had a contented feeling of peace come over me, I thought to myself, today the world seems like a perfect place.  The sun shinning brightly and warm in a cloudless blue sky, with a mild breeze to make everything smell fresh.  The ocean, a turquoise that you can't imagine through words but can only experience by seeing it in real life.

The happiness that I felt at that moment got me thinking about what it was like for God on the first day He created it.

The bible tells us that He was pleased, with what He saw.  He was content and satisfied with His work.  In my minds eye, I can see Him smiling the day He created land and sea, and even today as He saw the smile on my face, because of the beauty He created in nature.

  • Can you see the beauty in God's creation?
  • Can you feel contentment and satisfaction with simple pleasures like watching a sunrise or sunset?, or hearing sounds of water lapping up on a beach, wind in the trees, or a crackling warm fire?
  • Will you find and do work, whether it's a vocation or a hobby, that will bring you pleasure in life?
  • How will you give thanks to Him for His creation?  I allowed joy to fill my emotions, and to tell you about what He has done through this simple blog.
